Ah, the benefits of being a criminal. Taylor and Pierce are probably the most streetwise people on the crew of the Eden Ranger, but they've been "respectable," as Han Solo would put it, for years now. They're no match for Alaric's sheer chicanery. So yes, if it's not abundantly clear, Alaric has escaped the room that Candide locked him in, and is watching the goings on outside from the bridge.
